11 Weeks

September 10th, 2007 by Nanna

…and 2 days! When you are this tiny and precious (about 1.61 inches – 4.1 cm long and weigh 0.25 ounce – 7gm) every day counts!

Your tiny feet are fully formed and shaped and could stand on an adults fingernail. I’m looking at my fingernail, trying to imagine… How could you read that and not glance down at your fingernail! Nearly all your organs have formed and are beginning to function. Some of your bones are beginning to harden, and tiny toothbuds are starting to appear under your gums. Fingers and toes have separated, and you may soon be able to open and close your fists. Hair and nails are beginning to grow (gosh already?). You are already busy kicking and stretching, your tiny movements are so fluid they look like water ballet. These movements will increase as your body grows and becomes more developed and functional. As your diaphragm develops, you may also get the hiccups! Because you are still so small, though, Erin won’t feel any of your workouts or intrauterine gulps until sometime between 16 and 20 weeks.

So, the most critical part of your development is now over, and the remainder of the pregnancy is about rapid growth, organ maturation and getting ready for delivery.

Erin has booked in for her first scan for the 24th of September (you’ll be 13.2 weeks) so were are all waiting anxiously to have our very first glimpse of you. And yes, Erin is still seedy and throwing up!

And guess what – this time next year, you will be 5 months and 2 weeks old!
