Little Old Lady

What do you think of when you hear the word Grandmother?

Grandmothers of the past wore faded house dresses that had to be ironed and an apron, made out of a former house dress, which also had to be ironed. Grey hair pulled back in a bun or in a tight perm like a cloud around their head. Thick brown support stockings held up by heaven knows what. Smelling of Lavender or Rose and definitely mothballs. Shopping in a special shoe store to find black lace shoes with thick heels. Old lady shoes.

Grandmother to me, means an old lady. Just like my long-ago Grandmother, a lovely lady, but old. And I bet you think “old lady” too!

It’s hard to get my head around the fact I’m about to become one. My sister is one, my cousin is one, both my sister-in-laws and some of my best friends are Grandmothers and they are not that old.

So, I guess I’m about to become a little old lady.

How funny!
