There’s a SNAKE in my Bedroom!

January 7th, 2008 by Nanna

Gavin is away at the moment, diving and spearfishing off North West Island (southern Great Barrier Reef, located 75 kilometres northeast of Gladstone, Queensland) with his dad, something they have been doing each year for a week after Christmas for many years. So Erin has decided to stay with us while Gav is away.

Last night we were woken by Erin, frantically tapping on our bedroom door…

“There’s a baby SNAKE in my bedroom!”

I thought she must be dreaming.. a snake? In her bedroom? Gra fell back to sleep.

Our door is now flung open, the light switched on to blind us like a slap in the face.

“Quick I’m serious. There’s a SNAKE!!”

We hurriedly rush (as much as you can when woken from a deep sleep) to her bedroom where there on the carpet, covered with one of my clear Tupperware containers is the longest, wiggliest SNAKE earth worm I’d ever seen!

“Erin it’s 1:30 am and it’s a bloody worm!”

“NOOOO, LOOK it’s wiggling just like a snake”

Erin courageously taps container with her big toe causing worm to wiggle frantically just like a snake.

“Erin, look, a snake would have a head and a forked tongue”

“Are you sure? I think it came from the wardrobe. What if the mother snake had her babies in there?”

“Erin, believe me it’s a WORM.”

“I’m scared. I can’t sleep in here”

“Well, you can’t FIT in our bed” *much laughter*

Gra put the worm (about 40cm long) outside in our front garden, where hopefully he will stay and not venture back into our home, causing our very pregnant daughter to run and scream.
