Fraser Island {and 8 weeks}

Monday, September 7th, 2009

What a great week we had on Fraser Island.  The weather was fantastic, considering it was the last week of winter.  The fish weren’t biting, well, we just couldn’t catch them ..but we did enjoy one meal of delicious smoked flathead, thanks to Gav & Lee. Tyson had a ball in the sand and he’s proving to be a real little water babe.

..and Erin is 2 months pregnant!

3 Months Pregnant Today

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

…and Erin still can’t stop throwing up! Through the night.. during the day… Can’t sleep at night for wanting to throw up, so feeling very tired (and sick) at work. Basically having a horrible time. She has the odd good okay day when she just feels seedy, however throws up at least once every day. She is just starting to show with a slight baby bump.

Oh, and Gra has now changed his mind – must be a girl, a BOY wouldn’t cause this much trouble!

Beatrix Potter

Friday, September 14th, 2007

We found these gorgeous 8 x 10 inch prints of the original Beatrix Potter illustrations, perfect for her nursery theme! Of course Erin couldn’t decide which ones to get (some are more suited for a girl – others perfect for a boy), so as they were only a few dollars each she bought all that they had. If Erin waited until she finds out the baby’s sex in a couple of months time, it would be typical the prints would be gone and no where to be found. When she decides which ones to use, timber frames will set them of beautifully.

Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck & Foxy Whiskered Gentleman, Jeremy Fisher, Mrs Rabbit, Tom Kitten, Flopsy Mopsy & Cottontail, Appley Dappley, Hunca Munca..

The Baby’s Nursery

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

Today we emptied the chosen bedroom of all the things spare bedrooms always seem to gather. You know, the room you hope to God visitors don’t open the door to! Everything from scuba diving fins to Christmas decorations.

This room will make a lovely baby’s nursery, plenty of natural light, on shady side of the house in summer (Queensland heat remember) and the added bonus of a feature wall of stained timber built-in-shelving …so handy for all the little things needed in a nursery. But it has a vile bottle-green painted feature wall painted by previous owners that thankfully can easily be painted over later. I’ve already been delegated that job!

As Erin wants a Beatrix Potter themed nursery but there is nothing around in that theme bar some Petter Rabbit sheets, and that’s about all. I managed to find 3 rolls of very rare F Warne & Co genuine authorised edition wall borders copyrighted 1990.

I’ve also found a Tom Kitten wall clock – on eBay of course!

11 Weeks

Monday, September 10th, 2007

…and 2 days! When you are this tiny and precious (about 1.61 inches – 4.1 cm long and weigh 0.25 ounce – 7gm) every day counts!

Your tiny feet are fully formed and shaped and could stand on an adults fingernail. I’m looking at my fingernail, trying to imagine… How could you read that and not glance down at your fingernail! Nearly all your organs have formed and are beginning to function. Some of your bones are beginning to harden, and tiny toothbuds are starting to appear under your gums. Fingers and toes have separated, and you may soon be able to open and close your fists. Hair and nails are beginning to grow (gosh already?). You are already busy kicking and stretching, your tiny movements are so fluid they look like water ballet. These movements will increase as your body grows and becomes more developed and functional. As your diaphragm develops, you may also get the hiccups! Because you are still so small, though, Erin won’t feel any of your workouts or intrauterine gulps until sometime between 16 and 20 weeks.

So, the most critical part of your development is now over, and the remainder of the pregnancy is about rapid growth, organ maturation and getting ready for delivery.

Erin has booked in for her first scan for the 24th of September (you’ll be 13.2 weeks) so were are all waiting anxiously to have our very first glimpse of you. And yes, Erin is still seedy and throwing up!

And guess what – this time next year, you will be 5 months and 2 weeks old!

The Odds Are Brown!

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Here’s a cool online tool you can use to predict your baby’s (or grandchildren’s) eye colour.

Eye Colour Calculator

Erin (brown) and Gav (blue) = 50% Brown 37.5.% Blue and 12.5% Green.

Got to have a bit of fun while I wait….

Two hundred and eight days to go. *rolls eyes*

Gav’s guessing a Girl

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

It was so nice to chat to Gav and hear him tell of his happiness at Erin falling pregnant. Feeling so excited he wished Erin could just have the baby tomorrow (he’s not the only one!). Just the whole baby-thing buzz.

Gav is guessing they will have a Girl. Me too. Julie’s another Pink voter!

Marsha went into the salon to see Erin, felt her elbows (that’s a new one) and said “It’s a Girl!”.

Gra says a Boy for sure. So does Lee & Sue (Gav’s mum).

And what does the little mother herself think? She thinks she feels sick!

Why Did God Make Mothers?

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Brilliant answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions!

Why did God make mothers?

1. She’s the only one who knows where the sticky tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?

1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring
3. God made my Mum just the same like he made me. He Just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?

1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men’s bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you Your mother & not some other Mum?

1. We’re related
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people’s mums like me.

What kind of little girl was your mum?

1. My mum has always been my mum and none of that other stuff.
2. I don’t know because I wasn’t there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mum need to know about dad before she married him?

1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your Mum marry your Dad?

1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mum eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mum didn’t have her thinking cap on.

Who’s the boss at your house?

1. Mum doesn’t want to be boss, but she has to because dad’s such a clot.
2. Mum. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mum is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What’s the difference between Mums & Dads?

1. Mums work at work and work at home & dads just go to work at work.
2. Mums know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but mums have all the real power ’cause that’s who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend’s.
4. Mums have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mum do in her spare time?

1. Mothers don’t do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mum perfect?

1. On the inside she’s already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet You know, her hair. I’d diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your Mum, what would it be?

1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I’d get rid of that.
2. I’d make my Mum smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

Total Lunar Eclipse – Tue 28th Aug 2007

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I’ve decided to add Special Events that happen along the way – kind of giving a time capsual feel to my blog. I’m a little out of date with this entry as it happened a week ago – but later on, I’ll sneak move this to the correct date in my blog (and no one will notice).

An eclipse occurs when the earth passes between the sun and the moon in perfect alignment blocking the sun’s light. It is rare because the moon is usually either above or below the plane of the earth’s orbit. The next lunar eclipse will be December 2011.

It was a misty night here so unfortunately not the sharpest of photos. I spent the evening desperately clicking away in-between periods of thick cloud cover.

..and you are 9 weeks 4 days old

While still too small for you to feel, your are wriggling, shifting, and dancing already! Makes you almost wish for a window to peek in whenever you want!

Most joints are formed and you are practicing bending and flexing.

You will curve your fingers around an object placed in the palm of your hand! How amazing! At only nine weeks, if you happen to have an ultrasound, you may observe your infant fascinated by everything he or she can lay their fingers on (mainly other fingers, toes, ears and nose!”

Fingerprints are already evident in the skin.

You squint, swallow, move your tongue and can make a fist.
