Grandson

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Grubby little fingers,
Dirty little face;
Racing through life at the speed of light,
There’s no one could take his place.

Riding on a stick horse,
With a cowboy hat and a gun;
Accomplishing his mission in life,
To bring mischief, laughter and fun.

There’s no one like a grandson,
To bring a grandparent joy;
Snips and snails and puppy dog tails,
All wrapped in a little boy.

A little bit of sunshine,
A blessing from the Lord;
He’s got us right where he wants us,
He’s the little man we adore.

We have so much to look forward too!

Poppy has taken to calling you “Little Dougie”, Douglas being his middle name. Erin, as you can imagine, glared at Gra when he asked how “Little Dougie” was going! *Rolls Eyes* I hope this doesn’t stick!

We had such a wonderful holiday in Phuket, we decided it would be the perfect family holiday destination for us all next year, and have booked to stay at Le Meridian. “Little Dougie” (I couldn’t resist with a giggle) will be 9 months old by then.

Artie the Golliwog

**Please ASK me if you wish to use MY Golly photo on your website!  Thanks. golliwog

As a child (like most baby-boomers), I had an adorable Golliwog whom I loved dearly.

Golly was a homemade job (of course) made by elderly Auntie Nell (my Nanna’s sister) with wild, uneven loopy wool hair and a huge wobbly stitched red grin that stretched the full width of his face. I’d run my fingers over his body, feeling the bumpy lumps of scraps of old fabric he was stuffed with. Such a good Golly, he wore all my dolly’s clothes without ever complaining.

It was a very sad day, when Golly was passed down to my much younger cousin Glen, who took a shine to him and wouldn’t give him back!

When I spotted Artie (that’s his official name written on his tag) sitting up on a shelf in a baby shop, I just had to have him! A “grandson-on-the-way” is becoming a very handy excuse!

We Blabbed. We Gave.

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

We had good intentions of keeping all those presents until our Grandson arrived. But Erin called in on her way home from work last night to cut Pop’s hair (he’s definitely not a nude nut) and within 3 minutes of her arrival we’d blabbed that we’d been baby shopping! We almost fell over each other in the rush to get the shopping bags! Oh, but it was worth it. The gift really is in the giving!

We’ll just have to buy another lot for his arrival won’t we? *hehe*

20 Weeks = Half Way!

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

You are now about 27 cm (10.5″) long with teeth buds, although they’re hidden beneath the gum line. Your limbs have reached their relative proportions — no more alien baby! Fine hair has begun to grow on your head, with eyelashes and eyebrows also visible.

It still seems so long to wait. Be patient Nanna.

Grandson Shopping

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

Today Pop & I decided to hit the baby shops now that we know we are having a Grandson. We did go a little crazy buying a big plush Lion and a Crocodile to go with the nursery jungle theme, a blue “flat” teddy, a box of beautifully scented Crabtree & Evelyn baby draw liners and a very cute trendy outfit – cargo pants, jumper, hat and the most adorable soft leather shoes I’ve ever seen.

Pop bought a child’s tool set – he just couldn’t resist it, I’m sure we all buy things we would have loved to have had ourselves as a child. Beautifully made to scale with wooden turned handles all in a lovely wooden case, but it will have to stay up out of reach for many, many years yet. I’d take a photo, but it’s so beautifully gift wrapped I can’t undo it. And two little t-shirts with cute slogans – “When Mummy says No, go ask Granddad” and “I love hanging out with my Poppy”. I’m sure he will!

Well, as Grandparents, isn’t that our job to spoil?

It’s A…

It's a BOY!

(Looking up from underneath)

Part way through the ultrascan the machine broke down! We sat waiting for about half an hour and thankfully we were right to go again. He was now in a very difficult position and couldn’t even get a decent head measurement. So we are sent away for an hour to have lunch, have a walk around and hopefully he will move. Third time lucky – and we even get a perfect view of his packed lunch! We are all over the moon with excitement of knowing it’s a BOY!

The Beatrix Potter nursery theme has now gone out the window (won’t take up much room to store) after seeing the Kidsline Zanzibar Range and these cute accessories which is much more boyish. We spent the afternoon putting up the wallpaper border – and really pleased with the result – it certainly looks like a Boy’s nursery now!

For the record, Erin and Gav are now on their third Boy’s name (nope, I’m not telling – gotta have some secrets). I’m betting they will probably change their mind again! Riley, Cameron,

I’m The Luckiest Nanna!

Erin & Gav just rang to invite insist I come along tomorrow to the ultrasound. I thought they might like to have this time to themselves, but they want to share it with me! Oh wow, I feel so privileged and special to be allowed to share these very precious moments. Gav said if they won’t let me in like last time, he will duck out and give me a turn to go in and have a peek!

I better practice my “Labrador” look!

And positively glowing. Feeling great (at last).
