“feels-beautiful-pity-about-the-colour”

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Okay, so we have established that we don’t like the colour, but it does have it’s good points. A luxury mix of cashmere, micro-fibre & merino wool that is incredibly soft to the touch and gentle to the skin. Not only does it knit up beautifully, it feels so lovely to knit with, making knitting a real pleasure. Very importantly, machine washable!

AND IT WAS ON SALE! SO CHEAP!

I’ve knitted this much now so no turning back, I’m sure regardless of the colour it will come in handy.

It’s NOT a bargain

…just because it was on a half price sale and it’s a really poxy colour!

I bought 8 (did I really buy that many) balls of dull mustard dirty yucky baby-poo (that’s appropriate) yellow wool, now I’m seriously wondering what the hell was I thinking? I bet they thought they’d never sell it. What a typical Nanna thing to do! No way in the world would I have so much as glanced at it otherwise. Anyway I’m stuck with it now and hopefully will learn a lesson that that is not a bargain to buy something you don’t like.

However, it is a superb quality yarn (Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino). All I can think to do with it is knit up a baby blanket – because it’s such a dull, dirty yellow it will actually be quite a serviceable/practical colour so I’m thinking maybe a great blanket for the pram (blankets are always getting dragged on the floor and then stepped on or caught up in the wheels).

As I’m knitting this I keep saying to myself – yeah, it looks fine, Ewww-yuk I’m wasting my time, yep, it’s growing on me now, oh no it’s bloody awful… and I’m not sure if I’m making it look worse – I’m adding some stripes of other colours to break it up.. just plain knitting and I was thinking of doing a picot edge (got to pretty it up somehow). I had thought of doing a really beautiful pattern, but all that effort… if I’m going to put effort into an intricate design it’s going to be a colour of my choice. After all, I didn’t choose this did I… my wallet did!

Oh well, I’ll keep knitting – maybe the cats will score a luxurious cashmere baby-poo coloured blankie.

By the way, I knitted that little fair isle yoked cardigan with the said yarn – it looks okay with the other colours to break it up.

And you can never have too many baby blankets right? And no, I’m not taking a photo yet to show you.. it’s too cacky looking.. it might look a bit better when I do a bit more(I’ve done about 3 inches).

Hmmm, after all this effort into something yucky? I’m still arguing with myself over it.

Don’t Call Me Nitwit!

With knitting needles a clickin’ and a clackin’ at full speed, Gra keeps calling me Knittin’nanna. But don’t say it too fast – you might slip up and call me Nitwitnanna!

I love knitting Fair Isle! This cardigan is for a 3-6 month old.

No, I’m not going on a train. That’s the sound I make knitting!

Gra calls me Knittin’nanna. And no wonder. I’ve been knitting like a mad woman (do mad women knit?) every night while watching TV and any spare time during the day. Today it’s raining (again), perfect ambiance for knitting. Mind you, these baby knits are of the simplest designs and only take a few hours to knit. After knitting the cardigan and the cutest little gum-nut styled hat, I’m so over knitting cream and green stripes I just can’t bring myself to knit the other sock. I haven’t sewn buttons on the cardigan – as I can make it look more girlie with some flower/heart/novelty buttons – or just plain buttons for a boy.

And yes (I can’t help myself) I’ve started knitting another cardigan. This time something a bit more challenging, with a fair-isle yoke.

..and the sole (pardon the pun) sock.

Few pleasures in knitting can compare to the sheer delight of creating a hand-knit for a new baby. Every stitch is invested with love and care.

Photo’s can be deceiving – these are tiny new born size. When picking out buttons in Spotlight, a lady asked me if they were for a doll?
